Well we all survived our Mexico adventure which was actually not very adventurous at all. My wife along with 3 other couples all headed to Tulum last week. Tulum is south of Cancun, a good hour and a half cab ride south of Cancun. The transfers to and from the airport were not highlights of the trip to say the least. The resort was nice and I would recommend it but the location was not the greatest. If it were in Cancun and you didn’t have the retarded long cab ride it would have been great. The beach was nice to look at but there was a hidden row of ankle-breaking rocks that had to be crossed in order to find and area to swim in the sea. We only attempted this once before we headed down the beach some 300 yard to an area that was perfect. Here the sand was like carpet almost 75 yards into the sea…perfect really for swimming and playing in the waves.
The food and drink were okay, they are always okay when they are included in the price of the trip! I was not overly impressed with the quality or selection at this resort but it was adequate and those traveling with us seemed to like it. For some reason they wanted to have Sushi every freaking day! Sushi in Mexico? I am not even close to being a Sushi fan so this was not my area, but I was good and went with the group as they had their Sushi rolls.
For me the highlight was the day at the spa that we had. We all actually signed up and booked the spa day while drinking way to much in the pool…it really is amazing that we all remembered that part when some of the other details of the day are, shall we say, a bit cloudy. Kami and I signed up for massages and at this location this included use of the spa facilities for the day. We took advantage of the opportunity by using the saunas, hot tubs, and lounge chairs which was too much for this sleep-loving guy to resist. Naps in the spa are allowed, even if your mouth is wide open and your friends laugh at you. By gones. Anyway, this time I was not tortured with a “Sports” massage and it was a very relaxing experience. I think Kami and I might actually be on the resorts new promotional video too…I am not sure why but they were taping us as we lay by the hot tub after our massage. Oh well.
There really wasn’t anything earth shattering to report from the vacation but it was a good time and I guess I am ready to get back to work…if I have to.
Well Friday was the day I left the 20s and entered the next decade of my life. It was a pretty good day, nothing exciting but a relaxing day working from home and then my wife and I joined some friends for dinner before heading to the bedlam baseball game. The game was not very good as the Pokes destroyed the Sooners. The entertainment in the stands was hilarious as always though so the tickets were definitely worth it. Saturday my wife planned a barbeque party at our home for me and our friends. We had about 25 people and we all had a good time. I got some interesting gifts. My wife went all out and got me an iPhone which is really the only thing I wanted so she is the coolest wife in the world! She even went with the high end one so bonus points for that one! I got a lot of beer…24 from Waylon (way to leave one six pack at home for yourself and destroy the symbolism!). He and his wife along with another couple got me a bottle of Old Crow whiskey (not sure what they were saying with that one) and an autographed picture of themselves. I also got some cash from the parents and in-laws. I really like getting cash but I am at a point in life where I don’t need money from my retired parents and in-laws. They have the fixed incomes, they need it more than I do. So note to parents everywhere…when your kids start making more money than you do, you can stop giving them cash for special occasions. I also want to think Rilo for the “Fantasy Football League Champion” t-shirt, very nice and a great way for me to talk trash without saying a word the next time we all gather for some poker!
So now we are off to Mexico. Tomorrow at the butt-crack of dawn my wife and I along with three other couples will be heading to Tulum for some pre-paid food and drink on the beach. I will not be blogging from the beach as it seems quite rude to all of you that are not on the beach. I will post some updates when I return.
Well I am 3 days away from saying good by to the 20s and hello to the 30s! Normally birthdays are not a big deal to me but for some reason this one is harder for me to deal with. I remember all the things I wanted to do before I thought of myself as being old (not that 30 is old) but you know what I mean. There is a distinct difference in perception when you hear that someone is 30. They are surely grown up by then and responsible. I consider myself grown up as anyone with a mortgage should and I have always been responsible but now it is expected. I guess that means I missed out on the excused time to act like a fool and not think about the repercussions. Oh well…I am a pretty relaxed guy so I don’t think I missed out on much. I have had my share of fun and have done a lot of things before Friday. I think part of the problem I am having is that most of the people we are around on a daily basis are under 30 and their constant harassment of being old for some reason has weighed on me…normally I could care less about other’s comments.
Oh well…turning 30 won’t be too bad, after all I still look like I am in my 20s! I actually had a door-to-door sales person ask me last night if my parents were home! Always good to see their face when I say that I own the home (even if I won’t actually own it for 30 more years!). They pretty much know they will not be making a sale at that point but they still go through the routine and try their hardest. This time it was cleaner and since she seemed shocked that I could own the home I decided to point out that I don’t really do any cleaning, and that we hired someone to do that…the shock on her face at that point made my week! I think the best part is that I had worked from home all day and had on sweat pants and a Threadless shirt with King Kong on the front.
Well I hope you all have a great week and I will let you know how the weekend goes and if being 30 is actually different than just being 29!
