In my last post I mentioned the importance of self-awareness which can be guided by a manifesto. While I dive deeper into his in my manuscript, here I wanted to also share an abridged version which I think of in my ancestral Choctaw language to give you this:
Aloshumo hosh tahli ahni – “With great effort (diligently) finish thinking”
In the realm of the exhaustive mind, where thoughts swirl and possibilities abound, it’s easy to get lost in the maze of our own minds. We can overthink, overanalyze, and over-obsess, leading to inaction and missed opportunities. But there’s a powerful antidote to this mental paralysis: action.
The Importance of Taking Action
Our actions are the physical manifestation of our thoughts and intentions. They’re the bridge between our inner world and the outer world. When we take action, we bring our ideas to life, we make our mark on the world, and we create tangible results.
Taking action can be scary. It requires us to step outside our comfort zones, to embrace uncertainty, and to risk failure. But it’s also incredibly empowering. When we take action, we gain confidence, we build momentum, and we move closer to our goals.
The Science of Taking Action
There’s a fascinating science behind taking action. When we take action, our brains release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that’s associated with pleasure, motivation, and reward. This dopamine rush reinforces our behavior, making us more likely to take action again in the future.
In addition, taking action can actually change our thoughts and beliefs. When we see ourselves taking action and achieving results, our confidence grows, and we start to believe in our own abilities. This positive feedback loop can be incredibly powerful, propelling us towards even greater success.
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
One of the biggest obstacles to taking action is imposter syndrome. This is the feeling that we’re not good enough, that we’re a fraud, and that we’re going to be exposed at any moment. Imposter syndrome can be incredibly debilitating, preventing us from taking risks and pursuing our dreams.
The good news is that imposter syndrome is incredibly common. In fact, it’s estimated that 70% of people experience it at some point in their lives. The key is to recognize imposter syndrome for what it is: a feeling, not a fact.
When you start to feel imposter syndrome creeping in, remind yourself of your past successes, focus on your strengths, and surround yourself with supportive people. Remember, you’re not alone in this struggle.
The Power of Small Steps
Sometimes, the thought of taking action can be overwhelming. We can get so caught up in the big picture that we forget about the small steps that will get us there. But the truth is that small steps can lead to big results.
When you’re feeling overwhelmed, break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make the task seem less daunting and increase your chances of success.
Remember, every journey begins with a single step. So take that first step today, and start moving towards your goals.
The Power of Momentum
Once you start taking action, you’ll start to build momentum. This momentum will make it easier to take further action and achieve even greater results.
Think of it like pushing a heavy object. At first, it takes a lot of effort to get it moving. But once it starts rolling, it becomes easier and easier to keep it going.
The same is true for taking action. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. So keep taking action, and keep building momentum.
I leave you with this…
In the world of the exhaustive mind, action is the key to unlocking our full potential. When we take action, we bring our ideas to life, we make our mark on the world, and we create tangible results.
So don’t let your thoughts hold you back. Take action today, and start creating the life you want.
